We have all been in the situation; the gas or power bill comes through the post and the increase in bills almost makes you let out a cry on behalf of your bank account. This situation will only ever increase in frequency as the world’s natural resources deplete and more power is required by the increasing population. So what do you do about it? Grin and bear it?

The first step to take when you receive a bill that is higher than usual is to check it over. Gas and electricity bills can sometimes be confusing to read and can contain misleading information. It is important to ensure that you understand exactly what your monthly usage is, what the per unit cost is and how much the total cost of the bill is. That way you know if the increase is because of gas or electricity prices or your personal usage has increased.

After checking your statement, compare your stated usage with your actual usage by looking at your electricity or gas meter. Due to some tariffs being based on expected usage, it is common for over or under charging to occur. In the event of being overcharged for usage, get in contact with your supplier to enquire about the refund process.

The next thing that you need to do is to try to negotiate with your gas or electricity suppliers to see if you can get a better deal. Every utility provider will be able to offer a range of tariffs; though while some may initially look cheaper, they could turn out to be more expensive in the long run, so do your homework.

Consider changing to an internet tariff. Most companies nowadays offer an internet tariff that is not going to be dissimilar from an offline tariff except for the fact that you will receive bills in email form instead of through the post. This can, in some cases, save you around 10% on your utility bills.

Discuss with your suppliers whether direct debit payments will be cheaper for you. In most situations it will as the company can be sure that you will not default on a payment and they can actually gain interest on your overpayments.

It can be a daunting prospect, negotiating your utility bills with your providers. Though if all else fails, consider switching companies as it will still be the same electricity or gas coming through the pipelines. It may even work out cheaper to use dual fuel (gas and electricity) suppliers, but this is not true for everyone so spend some time researching before you decide to commit.

As part of humankind, you may have the right to some energy options and giving your opinion in the matter. Your opinion doesn’t mean anything if you do not vocalize your feelings and take some action. You will find that there are many supporting alternative energies that will make a difference. There are many steps that you will need to do to get involved with alternative energy endorsements and you may find that you’re going to have to voice your opinion all of the country. You will want to show your support by helping to clean up your environment and by setting a good example with your children and the community by caring for the environment.

You will want to make sure that you support the alternative energies by wanting to use it and fighting to get it available to you. The easiest way to support alternative energy is to use it. While this is not possible on large scales for everyone, alternative energy inarguably begins in the home—what good is it to be vocally against the use of oil if you use gallons of it everyday without giving it a second thought? Also, when it comes to building you will want to make sure that you think green. When you build environmental friendly, think about using installation, but also building with the environment in mind. If you cannot run your home purely on alternative energy, consider using alternative energy for part of your energy supply. Small home kits are available to produce solar, water, and wind power for some of your home’s appliances.

You may also want to think about just using less energy. Like, you can use the sun to dry your clothing in the summer so that you can save some energy and help the environment. Take advantage of light from the sun and do work and reading outside instead of having the lights in your home turn on all day. You will also want to replace any bad windows that might not be sealed right and you will want to do your best to use instillation in your home so that you don’t have heat and such leaving your home. All of these steps are simply the beginning in a campaign to support alternative energy.

You could begin to cut your power bill and started to use abundant free & green energy in two forms:

Sunlight

Wind

The amazing thing is, even if you’re not a crazy scientist or some kind of genius, you can harness the power of sunlight and wind in your own house. It’s easy, and actually pretty simple to understand.

Most people assume this technology is complicated. It’s really not. You don’t need a PhD to understand this stuff. In fact, if somebody explains it it you, and gives you a plan to follow, it’s as easy to do as assembling a piece of ready-made furniture.

What’s great about it is, not only will you be getting your home power for free, but you’ll also be helping the environment. Sunlight and wind are truly “green” energy, but we’ve been told for years that they’re too expensive or impractical. Wrong!

You don’t have to understand all the science, but by all means you should understand that sunlight and wind are free, and you can start using them to power your home. It’s 100% safe, 100% clean, and 100% easy to do.

When it comes to alternative energy, you will find that it is often used to describe fossil fuels, but you will find that these solutions will fall into a category of renewable energy. When it comes to renewable energy is important for two reasons. You will find that there is lot that is hurting the environment. You will find that there is a lot of future harm from the greenhouse effect and effects caused by the fossil fuels. Renewable forms of energy are typically safe for the earth, making them a much cleaner option.

Second, renewable energy sources are exactly what their name implies—renewable. Therefore, these sources of energy will not run out or become scarce and expensive, as fossil fuels eventually will. Because the renewable energy sources are becoming more and more researched, it is only a matter of time when major energy companies begin their switch from fossil fuels to these alternative energies.

There are many different types of renewable energy, including solar, wind, water, geothermal, biomass, and tidal. Many effects will have a positive outlook on the environment because there is nothing produced by the energies that could harm the environment at all.

Solar energy refers to power from the sun. We see this in everyday life as solar covers are placed on swimming pools to help then gather and retain heat. When you wear black on a sunny day, you will feel the effects of solar power. Solar power takes this heat and turns it into useful energy, which we can use to heat our homes and power other electronic devices.

Wind energy is one of the oldest forms of alternative energy, along with water power, Windmills and waterwheels were used as early as the middle ages to produce energy, and are still being used in many countries today in refined forms. By using generators, you will be able to convert power into electricity by using things like generators, windmills, waterwheels, and other old-world technologies.

Geothermal energy taps into the heat from the earth, by using geological hotspots such as volcanic sites, to produce energy. Biomass is also a very earth-like way of producing heat. This form of renewable energy refers to the use of once living organisms to produce heat and other forms of energy. Tidal waves can begin to make the energy or power that waterwheels and windmills in the same way. The ocean can also be used for its heated surface temperatures and cool deep-water temperatures to convert heat energy into useful electricity.

At the end of the day, you will find that the only drawback you will find to using renewable energies in the place of fossil fuels happens to be the current cost of use. It is expensive, but it can do a lot for the environment and your own good. Solar, wind, water, and other ways have been studied so that you can get renewable and alternative energies. Most people will agree that fossil fuels are not going to last forever, and now is the time to start planning for the future. You may want to fight these alternative methods since it will allow the environment to be beautiful and healthy.
